Project Overview
A D C Ltd was commissioned to transform and protect a disused indoor swimming pool in Elberton. The objective was to provide a robust, long-term waterproofing solution for the concrete structure, ensuring it remained scorched and protected against hydrostatic pressure.
The Challenge
Converting or maintaining large concrete structures like swimming pools requires specialist knowledge of structural waterproofing. Because the structure is below ground level, it is susceptible to water ingress. To ensure the space was fit for its new purpose, we needed to install a multi-layered defence system that could manage and divert any potential moisture.
Our Solution
Drawing on our 50 years of industry expertise, the ADC team implemented a dual-action waterproofing strategy:
Primary Defence (Type A): We applied a high-performance cementitious tanking system to the internal concrete walls. This creates an impermeable barrier that stops water from penetrating through the substrate.
Secondary Defence (Type C): For ultimate peace of mind, we installed a Cavity Drain Membrane (CDM) system. This "Type C" waterproofing involves a dimpled membrane that creates an air gap, allowing any moisture to be managed and safely diverted away from the internal space.
Precision Detailing: Special attention was paid to the steps and plumbing penetrations to ensure a continuous, unbroken seal across the entire pool floor and walls.
The Result
The project was completed to the high standards our Bristol and South Gloucestershire clients have come to expect since 1974. The disused pool is now fully tanked and waterproofed, providing a dry, stable environment and protecting the structural integrity of the property for years to come.
